Rainforest Flora on Drake Bay & Corcovado Tours

Tropical plants you may encounter on our Bahía Drake, Corcovado and Osa Peninsula tours — from native rainforest trees and heliconias to edible fruits like cashew, starfruit and jocote, plus colorful garden ornamentals.

The rainforest around Drake Bay is as much about plants as animals. Heliconias line wet trails, ceiba and other emergents break the canopy, and fruit trees — cashew, starfruit, jocote, wax apple — show up in gardens and along the path to the beach.

On Corcovado and coastal walks we point out native trees, medicinal plants, and the flowers that feed hummingbirds and butterflies. In town and lodge gardens you will also see ornamentals that thrive in this climate: hibiscus, bougainvillea, torch ginger, and allamanda.

This page is a living catalog of plants we meet on tour. It is not a complete flora of the Osa — just the species travelers keep asking us to name after a photo.
